I'm a pain in the ass and I know it. I am opinionated, articulate and I like to pick fights. I can come off pretentious and superior because I usually feel I'm the most mentally agile person in a room. I figured out long ago that I was gonna need to develop some redeeming qualities to make up for these obvious handicaps. I grew up wanting to emulate my dad, who is very charming and personable, but took after my mother, who's dogmatic, loyal and generous. So, I set about practicing my charm and friendliness. At this point, in my mid-40s, I hope my generosity, charm and loyalty make up for my sharp edges; somewhere between being a dick and your confidant, I'm Bake. I'm here. Now.

After growing up in Kentucky and 11 years touring full-time with a drama ministry, I live in Portland, Oregon with my bride (CarrieAnn), three children (Mayfare, Amos, Montgomery), three dogs (Sadie, Simon and Shia), a hamster (Kabuki), a beta fish (Finley) and a juvenile droid (Vector). I fix cars to make money. I'm a full time groom, dad and sports fan. I'm a part time writer and fantasy sports participant. Someday, I'll be a radio host, stand-up comedian or band leader.

My enjoyment of live sports coincides with my desire in life perspective: Be here. Now.

I will practice living the present tense as eternal.

I will practice the purpose of humankind, as God's primary creation, to know and be known.

I will practice making disciples of Jesus through relationships.

I will practice living amongst the indifferent, the apathetic, those who have been traumatized and marginalized.

God's word tells us our responsibility, as His people, His bride, is to care for the fatherless and widows and be a light in the darkness.

I write about faith, philosophy and sports. I'm here... at the intersection of contrary and unremorseful; redeemed and loved.

"But you are the ones chosen by God, chosen for the high calling of priestly work, chosen to be a holy people, God’s instruments to do his work and speak out for him, to tell others of the night-and-day difference he made for you—from nothing to something, from rejected to accepted. Friends, this world is not your home, so don’t make yourselves cozy in it. Don’t indulge your ego at the expense of your soul. Live an exemplary life in your neighborhood so that your actions will refute their prejudices. Then they’ll be won over to God’s side and be there to join in the celebration when he arrives. Make the Master proud of you by being good citizens. Respect the authorities, whatever their level; they are God’s emissaries for keeping order. It is God’s will that by doing good, you might cure the ignorance of the fools who think you’re a danger to society. Exercise your freedom by serving God, not by breaking the rules. Treat everyone you meet with dignity. Love your spiritual family. Revere God. Respect the government."

(From 1 Peter 2, in the Bible)
