The apparition of youth and age, recalling his childhood calls to my mind the saints of old. Accounts of Abram, Israel, Joseph, Moses, Joshua, David.. God come down, His promises, His law, His mighty acts.
Ebenezer's vision of the jolly Giant is Christmas present indeed. It forms in my thoughts the richness of the stable and manger. The surprise and joy of the shepherds. The knowing wisdom of stargazers.

God with us anew. God incarnate.
The promise fulfilled, foretold by Isaiah, Jeremiah, Daniel, among others..
The celebration of Christ- Messiah- promised rescuer.
The dreadful phantom lastly visiting Dickens' miser calls to mind the imminent future of death. The death of Incarnate God was the promise fulfilled. His reason for coming. We celebrate birth and death. We celebrate a God of promises fulfilled, promise kept and promises to come yet.
The unknown is daunting. Scary. Unyielding. The future is His. The promise is sure. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.
