I've never been much of a writer. I spent a great deal of my high school years reading Louis Lamour. I've read much of, maybe all of, the Bible throughout my life. Now, as a fantasy sports aficionado, I primarily read sports related material and pour through Twitter links. Yet, creating written content never appealed to me in the past.
I've listened to Fox Sports Radio almost exclusively since 2014 because of my great thirst for current sports stories. I grew fond of several of the hosts and regular guests and began to identify the journalists and the opinionists. My admiration and, admittedly, envy, of those who took time to follow teams, players, stories grew and I would anticipate those hits on shows I followed. I began to seek their stories, websites, social media accounts. I recognized, however, that this was not something I was capable of doing.
Since I was a teenager, I've wanted to perform. I joined the drama group in high school and took on some roles in school and community theater. I sang and performed at church services. An opportunity to work with an international theater ministry came my way out of high school and I traveled North America, performing in schools, churches, prisons, senior care facilities, honing my skills as a front man and thespian. What I dreamed of, though, was becoming a stand up comic or radio host.
Now, at 43 years old, with a wealth of life experiences under my belt, I'm looking at a soon post-COVID landscape in which technology continues to offer more opportunities than ever before. I currently support my family fixing cars and I started this while catching up on The Last Dance Episodes 3 and 4, on the Sunday that Episodes 5 and 6 were released. I parent three children with my bride, three dogs and a hamster in a 1200 square ft. house, causing difficulties in staying current with anything. When live sports furloughed on March 12th, I suddenly had all this predisposed attention with no place to pay.
As Portland, Oregon and the world around us continues to adapt and evolve, there are less cars to fix. Even as Korean Baseball starts tonight and UFC plans an event this weekend, there are less sports to watch. There's more space in my abundant life to share my thoughts and perspective. I desire to create or manipulate a platform to be an opinionist. So, stay tuned and thank you for reading. I'm BAKE and I'm here……
