Every 24... 7/8/2020

Wednesday, July 8, 2020

Dear diary,

Man, I was feeling me today. I was cooking through my cars at the shop. I finished up my column, which I thought was particularly good. I fixed my son's dried out bike chain, which had repeatedly fallen off... or so I thought. They say pride goes before a fall. That proved true for me, literally and figuratively. As I sped away to test the bike, the recently lubed chain popped off the maladjusted rear wheel's sprocket and all the force I had put into pedaling carried me over the handlebars of the stalled machine.

As I slid a ways on the rough asphalt, I yelled profanities in horror. I hobbled to my feet yelling angrily at the bike, embarrassing myself and the bride, who lovingly came to my side. I limped heavily from the pain in my knee and winced from the large open scrapes on my elbow and shoulder. The bride helped me into the house and appropriately scolded me for my gross reaction after I cleaned and she bandaged my wounds. The live soccer match in Florida was replaced in my home by an exciting brand of Bakers own live sports, complete with injury and drama.

I later lost my cool and inappropriately scolded my eldest after she, unbeknownst to me, had a run in with the old neighbor for playing music too loud. I found out after the fact. I didn't recognize her negligence to follow protocol was informed by shame and distraction. I interpreted it as disobedience or defiance. I have a lot to learn. Real talk.

The day started off so well, watching Premier League while fixing the cars.

Manchester City 5 - 0 Newcastle

Sheffield 1 - 0 Wolves

West Ham 0 - 1 Burnley

Brighton 1 - 3 Liverpool

Mo Salah had a brilliant header for goal in the second half. Skills for days!

I'm not sure which team won the soccer match in Florida- just checked:

Orlando 2 - 1 Inter Miami

Sports bubble life in Florida is on. MLS playing games in their bubble. NBA players posting pics of their less than adequate quarantine meals upon arrival to their bubble. (Look it up. It's a real story!)

God's mercies are new every morning. Great is His faithfulness. - Lamentations
