Dear diary,
Happy plum season! My tree is keeping pace with my three dogs for which can drop the most messes on my kids' play area...
I was up late last night watching the last match of UFC 251, which was impressive for several reasons. Masvidal took the fight short notice; Bisping and commentating team emphasized that early. Kamaru Usman has a quite different fighting style than Jorge, so it seemed imperative that one of them set the pace. In much of Round 1, it appeared that Masvidal's speed and prowess on his feet would give him the upper hand, but in Rounds 2-5, Kamaru took over, pinning Jorge against the cage for much of the time, attempting takedown after takedown, most of which Jorge defended. In the end, Usman's strength and likely better conditioning allowed him to control the bout and get the unanimous decision.
Earlier in the afternoon, I caught a few of the prelim matches, including the opening fight that ended in a viscous left hook that crumbled Martin Day. However, I missed the entire main event that preceded the final title fight, because I had an opportunity to collaborate and visit with a friend I've not seen in many months. This visit also allowed my eldest daughter to see a friend and remove her from a tense situation at home, so win, win.
I am aware of a NASCAR truck race yesterday, Premier League matches yesterday and today, NASCAR Cup Series race in Kentucky today, final round of Workday Charity Open for PGA and the MLS tourney continues in Florida. Live sports, baby!
