My best buddy

Shortly after I left the traveling life and settled in Portland, Oregon, I got a job with a casino party company, operating table games primarily for corporate get-togethers. It was through this position that I first met Matt. Nine years my senior, he had as affable an air about him as I'd seen in a while. Friendly and professional, he immediately introduced himself and we've been friends ever since. While our love to talk and philosophize unites us, his life experience is nearly opposite mine in every way, which likely also has something to do with why we make such good buds. In the dozen years I've known him, he's challenged me to growth more than anyone, save the bride, and he's the only guy who'll let me yell at him.

I treasure Matt's company because he's intelligent and articulate. I treasure his friendship because he's honest and loyal. His experience in the white collar world lends me perspective I'd not have on my own. As a father of children older than mine, I find myself asking him countless questions about child-rearing. I'm excited to invite him to contribute as a writer for my site and sincerely expect you'll be as impressed by him as I am. Since my goal is to stimulate thought and conversation, my hope is that his potentially contrasting point of view will add facets and dimension to this endeavor.

Lady's and gentlemen, Matt Goodrich...
